Ethernet Over Cable (EOC) Technology Brief

1. Introduction to EOC Technology

EOC is a technology that uses the coaxial cable to carry Ethernet to solve the last 100 m. It mainly uses the OFDM modulation method to modulate the Ethernet signal transmitted by the Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) into a wired cable. The signals of different frequency bands of the TV signal are added to the signal mixer at the EOC end, and the signals of the two different frequency bands are mixed. The mixed signal reaches the user end through the coaxial cable and the branch distributor, and the terminal EOC separates the mixed signal and outputs the signal. The PC and the set-top box are respectively connected to realize the fusion and separation of the two networks. EOC adopts a point-to-multipoint user network topology to utilize the existing coaxial cable of the broadcasting and television to realize the transmission of data, services and video.

2. EOC technical classification

(1) Passive EOC transmission technology. The passive EOC transmission technology utilizes the characteristics that the cable television signal is transmitted in the frequency range of 111 to 860 MHz, and the baseband data signal is transmitted in the frequency range of 0 to 20 MHz, and the television signal is adopted by the techniques of two/four conversion, high/low pass filtering, and the like. The data signal is mapped to the home coaxial cable through the combiner and transmitted to the user’s home, and the TV signal is separated from the data signal by the splitter at the user end, and transmitted to different terminals respectively.The system provides 10Mbit/s full duplex bandwidth for each user. Passive EOC access technology has a small amount of work for the existing cable TV network system. It does not need to add additional active equipment, is easy to install and use, and has low operation and maintenance costs. It is an economical user access technology.

(2) Active EOC transmission technology. The active EOC is a user access technology that combines cable television signals and digital signals into a coaxial cable network by using active devices in the vicinity of the user’s corridor through QAM/FDQAM modulation, multi-carrier OFDM, and the like. Its main technologies are HiNOC, BIOC, HomePNA, MOCA and so on.

3.Advantages of EOC

(1) Simple installation, plug and play, rapid deployment, no need for rewiring, no need to disturb people;
(2) At present, most EOC technologies can provide two-way bandwidth of more than 100M, and the anti-noise ability is much higher than that of CM, which can work in a harsh network environment;
(3) Small size and light weight, suitable for home, corridor and community installation;
(4) Safe and reliable, stable operation, economical and practical;
(5) TV interface is compatible with all major cable TV equipment, such as splitters, TV sets, optical transmitters, etc.;
(6) Data interface is compatible with all Ethernet devices, such as switches, routers, IP set-top boxes, PCs, etc.
(7) Embedded embedded system, you can log in through http mode to carry out various management settings, such as setting IP, password, etc.
(8) Support full-duplex, half-duplex mode;
(9) Support 10/100M adaptive;
(10) Support IEEE802.310Base-T (Ethernet, 10Mbit/s); Support IEEE802.3u100Base-TX (Fast Ethernet, 100Mbit/s).
